Life Updates

Hey Everyone! For those who followed Behind the Starting Line for the first few months after its launch, it’s been a bit quiet the past year. I had a lot of personal and professional ups and downs, but stepping away for some time gave me time to understand and form my goals and aspirations within the sports world and how I want to contribute to the growth of women’s sports.

Some updates first, though! I graduated with my M.S. in Sport Studies and Cognate in College Teaching from the University of New Hampshire! The day after graduation, I finished packing my belongings, and my dad drove us from New Hampshire to Indiana in one day (we got through 14.5 hours of the Dune audiobook… an achievement of its own). The job search is still underway, but I am excited to say I have completed the data collection for my debut organizational research study. I have been writing my first research study about social media marketing differences between men's and women's college athletics. I have been analyzing the individual interview results and dissecting themes and other relevant data. My focus is identifying the root factors of creating marketing strategies and challenges and strategies to enhance equity in social media marketing.

Plans for the Blog

As for Behind the Starting Line, I plan to come back to write about what is happening in the sports world, but I plan to pursue more substantive, more extensive, more articles aimed at telling stories. Such as the Cricket in India article and the one I wrote about the Iranian Women's Ice Hockey. These are spreading positive stories and upliftment in the women’s sports community. A new section will be added to the blog posts, and I will add a section to review different women’s sports books, TV shows, and movies. I will also likely review some that center around men’s sports.

I also plan to continue working on some creative fiction-style writing, novel or novella style, relating to girl's and women's sports.

There are countless male sports stories in fictional media, some of which are my favorite movies: Remember the Titans, Miracle, and Field of Dreams. And while there are great movies and media about women’s sports, such as League of Their Own, Million Dollar Baby, I, and Tonya, I want to work to tell so many more. Eventually, I have ideas on expanding into video content, even podcasting or interviewing other women in sports, but for now, I am excited to get back into writing and posting.
